Grae-Con of Steubenville began demolition work Monday on John Marshall High School’s Monarch Stadium. The stadium is undergoing a $9 million renovation project. Marshall County Board of Education approved Grae-Con’s demolition bid during an April 4 special meeting. During that meeting, board members said that the company had included some of the renovation costs in its original bid of $1.5 million. Eliminating those costs meant the demolition work itself would cost less than half of the original bid amount, or between $600,000 and $700,000. The demolition is the first part of the project’s first phase. When complete, phase one will includes new turf and a new press box. Later phases will add new home seating and lights. Phase one is supposed to be finished by August in time for the first game of the season.
The completed stadium should be ready by 2020.
