West Virginia GOP Will Meet at Oglebay Park in Wheeling

West Virginia Republicans have said they will host their summer meeting in Wheeling.

The WVGOP is set to gather July 13-14 at Oglebay Park. Brooke County GOP will host the opening session at Independence Hall in downtown Wheeling.

The chairmen of all 55 county GOP groups are expected to attend. Most of West Virginia’s Republican office holders will be there, too. In total, Ohio GOP chairwoman Elgine McArdle expects at least 200 visitors will come to Wheeling.

The WVGOP traditionally holds its meetings in Charleston, but she believes the party’s decision to come to Wheeling is an effort to bolster support in the Northern Panhandle.

“We have asked many times, ‘Why not do something in Wheeling?'” said McArdle. “It just never happened.”

Calls to the WVGOP office in Charleston were not returned.

During their summer meeting, members will address business matters and discuss issues happening within their counties, said McArdle.

Most meetings will be open to the public, although she said portions will be designated as private. Republicans will focus on efforts to maintain the state’s three U.S. House seats as GOP holds.

“At the state level, some races are at issue,” said McArdle. “And with this being the first mid-term election in the presidency of Donald Trump, there is a true concern about presenting more of a united front. We can’t fight among ourselves, and there is a want among the membership to do something about this.”

Another GOP-related event is set for June 14, when the Ohio County Republican Party will host a “Stand Up” Dinner at Wheeling Park’s White Palace. Keynote speaker will be Marc Lotter, who was the spokesman for the Trump-Pence campaign.

The event not only takes place on Flag Day, but also on Trump’s birthday. McArdle said the term “stand up” pertains not just to standing up for the flag, but also for standing up for individual rights.

She said anyone interested in volunteering for the Ohio County GOP should call her office at 304-232-0700 or email her at elgine@mcardlelawoffice.com.
