Tickets Still Available for Wheeling Chamber Dinner on Thursday

GEN. MICHAEL HAYDEN

Tickets are still available for the Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce dinner this week, and will be until 3 p.m. Thursday.

Former CIA Director Gen. Michael V. Hayden is the keynote speaker for the event, set to happen Thursday at Wheeling Park’s White Palace. Doors open for social hour at 6 p.m., and dinner is set for 6:45 p.m.

Delegate Erikka Storch, R-Ohio, also president of the Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce, said more than 300 tickets had been sold as of Tuesday afternoon. There is room at the dinner to accommodate as many as 450 patrons.

“We’re picking up a few everyday,” Storch said. “We will sell them almost up until the last minute. We don’t have the people to workthe door, but you can buy them right up until 3 p.m. We’ll make sure the ticket is waiting for you at the door.”

Storch said this year’s Community Commitment Award from the chamber will go to Jim Pennington, president and CEO of The Health Plan.

“The Health Plan brought 450 jobs back to West Virginia, and they have a beautiful building downtown,” she said.

Bob Contraguerro Sr., of Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration, will receive the Kathy Fortunato Award for individual community service at the dinner.

Hayden’s book, “The Assault on Intelligence: American National Security in an Age of Lies,” goes public Friday.

Hayden, a four-star general, served as director of CIA from 2006 through 2009 under President George W. Bush.

Prior to his tenure, Hayden was the country’s first Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence, which made him the highest-ranking intelligence officer in the armed forces.

He also has served as director of the National Security Agency.

Those wishing to purchase tickets should call the chamber office at 304-233-2575.
