McMechen Volunteer Fire Department Donates to Burned-Down Church
The McMechen Volunteer Fire Department is trying to help a church rebuild after a devastating fire.
McMechen Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jeff Kady and President John Davis presented a $500 donation toward the McMechen First Church of God right before the fire department’s regular monthly meeting. The money came from a spaghetti fundraiser the fire department had in April for the purpose of helping to support the church.
The church was destroyed in June 2017 after a late night fire damaged the structure so badly it had to be demolished. Since then, services had been held in a few places, including more recently at the McMechen-Benwood United Methodist Church, while plans to rebuild were made.
The church is in the design phase with McKinley Associates of Wheeling. Its members have said they plan to start rebuilding during spring 2019.
Each month, the fire department has a community meal to help meet community needs and provide support for its residents.
