MOUNDSVILLE — At the Marshall County 4-H and FFA Goat and Rabbit Club’s 26th annual auction held during the Marshall County Fair, the club awarded three membership scholarships. The club’s scholarship is funded through donations of animals to be sold through the sale and by private donations. Each recipient must have completed at least one year of college, taken a goat or rabbit project for three consecutive years before graduating high school and have at least a 2.5 GPA.

Layne Neely is a sophomore at Fairmont State University majoring in psychology and minoring in art. She has been a member of 4-H for 12 years and FFA for four. She has taken a goat project for two years and a rabbit project for four years.

Haley Shook is studying nursing at West Virginia Northern Community College. Haley has been a member of FFA for seven years. She has taken rabbit projects the entire time she has been a member of the Goat and Rabbit Club.

Erika Whipkey is attending Pierpont Community and Technical College studying to be a veterinarian technician. She has been in 4-H for 10 years and in FFA for six years. She took a goat project for one year and rabbit projects for eight years.

The Goat and Rabbit Club auction takes place annually on Thursday at the Marshall County Fair.

Members taking market projects sell their projects during this auction. The price they bring on the first round goes 100 percent to the exhibitor.

Any animal given back to the club to be sold again can benefit a club, a charity, or our scholarship fund.
