Former Moundsville Fire Chief Honored on Memorial Wall
Clarke’s name added to monument in Colorado
Former Moundsville Fire Chief Noel Clarke’s memory will live on among his fellow firefighters in Colorado on the Fallen Fire Fighters Wall of Honor.
Clarke, who died of colon cancer in November 2017, had served with the city’s fire department since 1997. Clarke developed the cancer during the last four years of his life. It was identified as a work-related illness, thanks to a law introduced to the West Virginia Legislature.
Clarke’s name was added to the memorial in Colorado Springs alongside others who have died in the line of duty. Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Kimple said Clarke’s inclusion was an honor because he was a good man.
“It’s an honor to have him on that wall,” said Kimple. “It’s well deserved. He dedicated his life to his community.
“The names etched on the granite walls tell a bigger story, one of a century of sacrifice and a fire service that has given so much to keep families, businesses and communities safe,” he said.
Kimple said the memorial includes those who died during incidents that the firefighters responded to in their lines of duty. But they also include those who succumbed to occupation-related illnesses, such as cancer heart disease and post-traumatic stress, he said.
The ceremony was held Saturday.
