Mingo Junction Man Charged in Moundsville Beating of Two Others

A fight at a Moundsville club led to felony charges against a man accused of sending two others to the hospital after an early morning argument last weekend.

Around 1 a.m. Sunday, Moundsville police responded to a call of a fight at Godfathers II. When police responded, they allegedly found a man kneeling on the side of W.Va. 2. Three other men were kicking him in the face and torso. Upon seeing police, one man, later identified as John Miller, took off running, police said. Officers said they chased down Miller and arrested him behind the building.

Police then said they detained Miller while several witnesses gave statements. According to police, Miller allegedly broke beer bottles over two men’s heads before attacking them. The other two men who were breaking bottles over heads, not identified at the time of the arrest, assisted him.

Miller was said to have beaten the man on his knees so badly that he required emergency facial reconstruction. Police said his jaw was shattered and he had damage to his left eye that threatened his sight.

Another man, found covered in blood, said Miller broke two bottles over his head before pistol-whipping him in the head.

Police said the second man also requires facial reconstructive surgery. Police said they found a gun behind the building but Miller said it was not his.

Miller allegedly told police that one of the men had been trash-talking him before he lost his patience and attacked him.

Both victims were taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown for their injuries.

Miller was charged with two counts of malicious wounding, brandishing a handgun and obstructing an officer.

He remains at the Northern Regional Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond while he awaits his preliminary hearing. That hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in Marshall County Magistrate Court.
