Corpus Christi School Students To ‘Race for Education’ at Garden Park in Wheeling
Corpus Christi School is gearing up for its eighth annual Race for Education set for 9 a.m. Friday in Garden Park.
The event is historically the school’s largest fundraiser.
“In addition to being a fundraising event, the race is a valuable tool for teaching our students about wellness, fitness and goals,” said Advancement Director Miranda Zambito. “Funds raised for the Race for Education is a combination of corporate sponsorships and student mailings.
“With corporate sponsorships, we have raised $18,850,” she said. “Our most generous sponsor, Fitzsimmons Law Firm PLLC, is leading the charge, as well as 22 other new and returning sponsors. We have raised over $11,000 in the friends and family student mailing sent out with more sponsorships coming in daily.”
The event will kick off at 9 a.m. in Garden Park (across the Warwood Avenue from the school) with preschool through eighth-grade student participation. Students will receive a blessing from the Rev. Paul Mundumoozhikkaranirappel, pastor at Corpus Christi, and get “pumped up” for the day with a parade around Garden Park before the activities start.
After the ceremony, upper grade levels will walk or run around Garden Park while the other students participate in Olympic style sports. Students are encouraged to achieve personal goals set for themselves and work as a team. In the afternoon, an awards ceremony is held in the Parish Center for student achievements throughout the day.
Zambito said all gifts are tax-deductible.
