Southwestern And CFOV Award STEM Education Grants

WHEELING — There will be more coding robots, construction kits, hands-on field trips and virtual reality experiences in 18 area classrooms thanks to STEM grants made possible through Southwestern Energy and the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley.

Area teachers submitted proposals as part of the competitive application cycle.

By partnering with the foundation, the energy company was able to take a strategic approach to the process which resulted in more than $8,000 in grants to support 18 classrooms across all grade levels in Ohio, Marshall and Wetzel counties.

“A core pillar of Southwestern Energy’s community outreach program is supporting education and STEM efforts in the areas in which we operate,” said Amy Dobkin, community relations manager for Southwestern Energy. “Our company is committed to supporting educators in their mission to deliver unique and creative experiences for their students, and we are so excited to present 18 grants.”

Grantees, along with their principals and superintendents, were recognized during a reception held last week at CFOV.

“We are proud to be part of this great initiative to support unique STEM opportunities,” said Susie Nelson, executive director for the foundation. “Partnerships play an important role in the work we do at CFOV. This targeted partnership with SWN is no exception and we look forward to watching these projects influence students and their teachers in positive ways.”
