Police Arrest Bellaire Woman in Moundsville Stabbing

Text messages allegedly found on a man’s cell phone led to a confrontation that left one woman hospitalized after an apparent stabbing.

Around 9 a.m. Saturday, a caller alerted Marshall County 911 that a woman on the walking trail had been stabbed under the armpit by another woman. When police arrived at the scene, they spoke with a woman who directed them to a home on Eighth Street. No one was home, but police say they followed a trail of blood through the back door, through several rooms and then upstairs, where several floors and walls were found covered in blood.

The stabbing victim was able to walk to the Eighth Street home after the altercation, police said, and received a ride to Reynolds Memorial Hospital.

Around 30 minutes later, police heard that a man, Eddie Nelson, had just left the emergency room and they found and detained him. Nelson said the alleged victim, the mother of his children, found sexual text messages on his phone between him and a woman named Shalee Laquaglia, 21, of Bellaire. The discovery of the messages led the female victim to allegedly confront Laquaglia on the Moundsville walking trail, police said.

Around 10 a.m., police interviewed the stabbing victim, who confirmed she had confronted Laquaglia. During the altercation, she allegedly told police that she swung at Laquaglia, who dropped into a “knife fighting stance” and swiped at her, which led to an injury that began bleeding heavily. She said she walked back to Nelson’s residence, and was taken to the hospital immediately after.

Belmont County deputies identified and detained Laquaglia at her home in Bellaire, where she was found with facial lacerations. She allegedly told police that she was at the boyfriend’s residence when the alleged victim arrived, causing a scene, which led to her drawing a knife to defend herself. Following this, she said the man became “irate” and struck her multiple times with a closed fist when he discovered the scene.

Police say they found a four-inch knife with specks of blood on it in Laquaglia’s possession.

Laquaglia faces charges of malicious wounding, a felony, and remains lodged at the Northern Regional Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
