Scholarship Offered by Wheeling Parks & Rec, J.B. Chambers Foundation
Wheeling youth will now have better access to recreational activities thanks to a partnership between the city and the J.B. Chambers Foundation.
Jesse Mestrovic, director of Parks & Recreation, explained that the foundation is providing funding that will help to defray the cost of summer activities that may not otherwise be affordable for some youth. An application for the scholarship fund is available online at www.wheelingwv.gov/departments/Parks-Recreation/youth-sports or can be picked up at the Parks & Recreation office at 51-16th Street, Wheeling.
“Individuals in need who cannot afford things like a pair of cleats, a glove, a registration fee for league sign-ups, summer swim pass, swim suit or a summer camp, please apply. We do not want any child to miss out on any recreational activities in the City of Wheeling,” he said. “Every effort will be made to accommodate the requests made. Qualifying applicants may only be required to pay a portion of the fee according to their financial ability.”
Mestrovic said he is very grateful for the gift from the J.B. Chambers Foundation in that it makes programs such as this youth scholarship fund possible.
“This is just another way the foundation is supporting the needs of Ohio County’s children and enhancing their lives at the same time,” he said.
