Tickets Still Available for YSS Good Samaritan Dinner
Youth Services System’s board of directors will hold the 12th annual Good Samaritan Dinner at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at Wheeling Park’s White Palace.
Charlie Schlegel, chef-owner of Ye Olde Alpha Restaurant in Wheeling, is the 2019 Good Samaritan honoree.
YSS contracts Schlegel to cater the Good Samaritan Dinner each year, and this year will be no different. He and his staff will be preparing a menu featuring appetizers of Alpha bruschetta, hummus, and spinach and artichoke dip, with main courses of London broil, lemon chicken, and bourbon and brown sugar shrimp, along with vegetables, salad, bread and dessert.
Gregg Molnar will provide musical entertainment. A chance auction will be held.
“Every November, Charlie comes to our Wheeling SleepOut fundraiser for local homeless youth and cooks a delicious meal for participants,” said Betsy Bethel-McFarland, YSS communications manager. “And for the past six years, he and his dedicated staff at the Alpha have raised more than $40,000 for local children during their Ugly Server Contest. YSS is one of dozens of local charities Charlie supports. He truly has a Samaritan’s heart and is most deserving of this honor.”
The event is open to the public, but the deadline to purchase tickets is Friday. Tickets are available through Eventbrite (www.eventbrite.com) or by calling Laura Weber, 304-218-2894, ext. 102.
Fitzsimmons Law Firm is the premier sponsor of the 2019 Good Samaritan Dinner, while Wheeling Hospital also is a sponsor. For more information, call Bethel-McFarland, 304-218-2870.
