Two Charged in Bellaire Murder
WHEELING – A 19-year-old man was arrested today in connection with the murder of an elderly woman inside her Bellaire home in June, while police say a second suspect in the killing already is in jail on unrelated charges.
Wheeling police took Devin Wayne Fuller of 3567 Franklin St., Bellaire, into custody without incident just before noon today at the National Road restaurant where Fuller reportedly is employed, according to Deputy Police Chief Martin Kimball.
Fuller made an initial appearance before Ohio County Magistrate Charlie Murphy and will be held without bond at the Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville pending extradition back to Ohio. He faces a charge of aggravated murder and could receive the death penalty if convicted.
Brandon Michael Phelps, 22, of Bellaire also has been charged with aggravated murder. He was behind bars on an unrelated theft charge, according to police.
On June 30, 92-year-old Lydia Ashworth was found dead inside her 124 Fourth Ave. home by a family member who became concerned after not being able to get in touch with her.
Bellaire police have released few details about the murder, but have said Ashworth’s killers entered through the rear of the home and that robbery was the apparent motive.
