After 93 Years, Louis’ Hot Dogs Is No More
WHEELING – Louis’ Famous Hot Dogs, a fixture in Wheeling for almost a century, has closed its doors.
The restaurant did not open this morning, and a sign simply reading “Closed” was taped to the front door.
Louis Mamakos, who ran the day-to-day operations of the store and is the grandson of the business’ original owner, confirmed the store shut down for good after the close of business Wednesday.
The business opened in 1919 and operated at two locations in downtown Wheeling before moving to the Elm Terrace Shopping Center in Elm Grove in 1981.
