Marshall Recount Upholds Miller’s Victory

MOUNDSVILLE – A recount lasting several hours has confirmed Marshall County Republican Bob Miller’s victory over incumbent county Commissioner Jason “Jake” Padlow.

The final total was 6,277 votes for Miller and 6,192 for Padlow. The recount increased Miller’s margin of victory by 15 votes over the 70-vote lead he held entering today’s proceedings.

It remains unclear whether Padlow plans to challenge the election results in court. Controversy erupted prior to the county’s vote canvass two weeks ago when Padlow took issue with the way County Clerk Jan Pest’s office handled an oversight in which early and absentee votes were omitted from the election night totals. Office staff reportedly corrected the error the Saturday following the election without any ballot commissioners present, which led Padlow to question the integrity of the process.
