Crews on Scene of Fuel Spill in Moundsville

MOUNDSVILLE – Emergency crews are on the scene of a gasoline spill at the Moundsville Plaza Kroger on Lafayette Avenue.

Moundsville Fire Chief Noel Clarke said a truck making a delivery spilled between 138 and 300 gallons of fuel. Initially, it was estimated the spill may have exceeded 1,000 gallons.

The spill appears to be contained, he said, but the store’s fuel center will remain closed as cleanup continues.

Marshall County Emergency Management Director Tom Hart said West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection representatives will check to make sure no gasoline got into the city’s sewer system, the Ohio River or Big Grave Creek.
