Governor Appoints Fitzsimmons to Senate Seat

WHEELING — Robert “Rocky” Fitzsimmons will represent the 1st District in the West Virginia Senate.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today appointed the Wheeling attorney to the seat left vacant following the resignation of Orphy Klempa, who now holds the office of Ohio County commissioner.

Tomblin selected Fitzsimmons from among three candidates recommended to him by the 1st District Replacement Committee last week. The other two candidates were former Delegate Sam Love of Weirton and retired Wheeling Fire Lt. David Palmer.

Fitzsimmons is the co-chairman of the Ohio County Democratic Party.
