Offender Arrested In Hospital Incident

WHEELING – Police arrested convicted sex offender Christian Dutton on Tuesday after he allegedly followed a 12-year-old girl into a restroom at Ohio Valley Medical Center.

Dutton was booked into the Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville on Tuesday evening.

A magistrate is expected to arraign the 53-year-old Wheeling man today for attempting to use a juvenile to film sexually ex-plicit material.

According to Deputy Police Chief Martin Kimball, Dutton followed the girl into the women’s restroom on the main floor around 2 p.m. and was banging his fist against the stall doors. A hospital employee was in one of the stalls, and she exited the restroom and notified security, who apprehended Dutton while waiting for police to arrive. The employee was not aware the girl was also in the restroom, Kimball pointed out.

Dutton reportedly told officers he was looking for the men’s restroom and entered the women’s restroom by mistake. He did not make contact with the girl, Kimball noted.

Kimball said the Ohio County Prosecutor’s Office advised officers regarding the specific charge they should file against Dutton. Kimball would not, however, elaborate on the device Dutton allegedly used to attempt to film the girl.

“Our security was in the area and responded immediately,” OVMC spokeswoman Laurie Labishak said Tuesday evening. “He never made contact with the minor. The police were called, and he was arrested.”

Dutton previously was convicted of committing a sex crime against another adult and was required to register as a sex offender for 10 years, but that time period has since expired, according to Kimball.
