Rape Trial Day 4: Closing Arguments Complete

STEUBENVILLE — The juvenile rape trial held at the Jefferson County Justice Center this week is complete.

Several witnesses, including the alleged victim, testified in juvenile court today before visiting Judge Thomas Lipps. The prosecution and defense both rested their cases shortly after 7 p.m., followed by closing arguments from both sides.

Two Steubenville High School student-athletes are accused of raping a Weirton girl during a series of late-summer parties held at private homes in Steubenville in August. Testimony indicates alcohol was being consumed by the defendants and the alleged victim during the incident.

Lipps announced at about 8:15 p.m. today that he would take the proceedings under advisement and issue a ruling in the case at 10 a.m. Sunday.
