Sheetz Coming To St. Clairsville

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – The oil and natural gas industry is powering construction of a new 15-acre retail development across National Road from Whiteside Chevrolet Buick Cadillac GMC.

By the end of 2014, a new Advance Auto Parts store, a CVS Pharmacy and a Sheetz gas station/convenience store will open on the site known as Kettler’s Ridge, according to St. Clairsville lawyer Mark Thomas.

“There is a lot of activity over here because of the oil and gas industry,” he said. “This is probably just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the new developments we are going to see because of all the work and the new money coming into the area.”

With bulldozers and backhoes now on site daily to move “thousands of cubic yards of dirt,” Thomas said the project will border National Road to the south, Rehm Road in the area of Kirke’s Homemade Ice Cream to the west, with Stewart’s RV Center to the east.

Thomas said the developer is a company known as “St. Clair 001 LLC,” based in Portsmouth, Ohio. The developer is Jeff Albrecht, who could not be reached for comment.

Thomas said the development should also eventually include both a new restaurant and a new hotel, though he said these agreements have not been finalized. Another hotel would be in addition to the 85-room Microtel Inn and Suites by Wyndham that recently opened near the St. Clairsville Hampton Inn, as well as the new 55-room Comfort Inn along National Road between St. Clairsville and Blaine.

“There is plenty of demand for hotel rooms in Belmont County right now because of the drillers and the pipeliners,” Thomas said.

Thomas said the development will require some changes to the traffic patterns along National Road, as there will be an access road built from National Road to reach the site. There will also be some other slight changes involving traffic near the Ohio Valley Mall and Ohio Valley Plaza, he said.

“This is all great for Belmont County and for Richland Township,” said Thomas. “I think we are going to see more things like this as we move forward.”
