Dog Attack Lands Child in Hospital

MOUNDSVILLE – A 10-month-old child was in intensive care at Wheeling Hospital on Tuesday after suffering head wounds sustained by one of two pit bull dogs sharing the home.

Sheriff Kevin Cecil said his deputies and emergency personnel responded to an 8:35 p.m. call Monday from the child’s mother, Megan Kaiser, at 53 Wilson Way, Moundsville. Cecil said preliminary reports indicated the child had bite wounds to the head.

“Our investigation is continuing,” he said. “We are talking to the child’s parents and to neighbors to determine what happened.”

Marshall County Animal Control officers are also involved in the investigation.

Cecil said the dog that attacked the child is quarantined at the county animal shelter and is undergoing testing to determine whether rabies shots are current. A sheriff’s incident report shows Kaiser wants animal control officers to know she wants the dogs removed from the home.

Cecil said information gathered in the investigation will be forwarded to the county prosecutor to determine whether criminal charges may be filed.
