Armed Robber Sought in Warwood

WHEELING – Police were searching the jogging trail near North 26th Street in Wheeling for an armed robber who reportedly robbed a resident at 2603 Warwood Ave. shortly after 10 a.m. today.

The suspect was described as a white man, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, dressed all in black and wearing a ski mask. The victim said the man was armed with a black semi-automatic handgun. The suspect reportedly took a black purse containing a large amount of cash from the victims home and then ran south on North 26th Street toward the jogging path.

Warwood Elementary and Corpus Christi Parish schools were placed on lockdown as the search continued. Wheeling Police were aided in the search by West Virginia State Police and the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department aided in the search.

The 911 Dispatch Center said neighbors of the victim were screaming for help as the suspect ran from the area.

At press time the suspect was still at large.
