Macy’s Holds Grand Re-Opening

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – A host of dignitaries, well-wishers and shoppers were on hand Saturday morning for Macy’s grand re-opening at the Ohio Valley Mall.

For the past several months, Macy’s had been undergoing a major revamping of its sales floor that includes an expanded women’s shoe department as well as a larger cosmetics department, more designer merchandise and plenty of space for the shopping experience.

Just in time for the holiday season, the store is brimming with new merchandise. It’s the first time since the now-87,000-square-foot Macy’s site opened as a Kaufmann’s store in 1979, that the mall retail outlet got a “full store refresh,” officials said.

The first 200 guests Saturday received a $10 gift card.

“I am very excited and proud to be here today to celebrate with you our newly refreshed Ohio Valley Macy’s,” Deanna Salvaggio, district vice president for Macy’s, said. “On behalf of my entire team, we want to thank you for your continued support and to let you know how excited we are to be apart of the community.”

On Friday, Macy’s held a special community shopping event to benefit the Tri-County Help Center. Along with the ribbon cutting, Macy’s presented a check to the Tri-County Help Center Director Cathy Campbell for $2,000.

“Giving back is a very important part of our community at Macy’s and one of our core brand values and we are honored and excited to give back to your community,” Salvaggio said.

Salvaggio invited everyone, no matter what his or her age was to write a letter to Santa and drop it off in their Santa Believe mailbox. For every letter, Macy’s would donate $1 to the Make A Wish Foundation up to $1 million.

According to Cathy Wilson, who has been a manager for Macy’s for 19 years, some of the biggest changes she has seen in the newly renovated Macy’s includes the lighting, flooring, more spacious and brighter.

“It is a wonderful shopping space for our customers. It’s a fabulous shopping environment,” Wilson said. “One of my new favorite changes is the shoe expansion that is almost double the size of the original floor… It’s just a great shopping environment. We are so excited and we invite everybody to come and see our holiday gifts. It is going to be a great experience for everyone.”

Wilson said the associates are excited for the renovation and feel like they have a new home and customers are thrilled as well.

“Walking in, particularity in the men’s section, it is a complete transformation. I just think what they have done here is a great improvement for our area,” St. Clairsville Mayor Robert Vincenzo said. “They have done a wonderful job and what an asset it is going to be for the shoppers. I think it boasted our area’s economy and that is what we are really looking for in Belmont County … And we are very excited for Macy’s and for the Ohio Valley Mall.”
