Police Foot Chase Brings Multiple Charges

Demetrius Lashawn Moore is in the Northern Regional Jail at Moundsville and facing multiple charges after his arrest Monday night following a police foot chase on Wheeling Island.

Ohio County Magistrate Harry Radcliffe set bond at $37,500 for several charges, including two counts of fleeing on foot, possession of a controlled substance, burglary and several traffic violations.

A Wheeling Police report shows that officers responded to a call at 11:45 p.m. when they learned that Moore, 40, whose last known address was 435 N. Huron St., Wheeling, was in the area of North Front Street near the Fort Henry Bridge. The report indicates officers watched him flee across Interstate 70 and jump from the exit ramp to the ground 30 feet below.

Police K-9 units lost Moore’s scent after tracking him through various locations on Wheeling Island. Officers searched the Ohio River bank, several streets and alleys and the Aetnaville Bridge. Ohio law enforcement officers joined the search on their side of the river.

According to the report, the chase resumed a short time later when an officer spotted Moore in an alley near North York Street The foot chase ended when they caught up to him in a yard on Kentucky Street.
