Robbery Probe Leads To Body

WEIRTON – What began as an armed robbery investigation Saturday led police to discover a woman’s body inside the suspect’s Weirton apartment.

Ohio authorities arrested Leslee Craig Arnold Jr., 47, of 525 Cove Road Sunday in downtown Steubenville. According to a court official, Arnold waived extradition this morning on an armed robbery charge during a hearing before Steubenville Municipal Court Judge Dan Spahn, and will be transported back to West Virginia.

A statement released by police Sunday states that at an unspecified time on Saturday, officers responded to a report of a man robbing a woman at gunpoint before driving off in her vehicle.

After interviewing several witnesses in the area, police identified Arnold as a suspect. Officers searched for Arnold at his Overbrooke Towers apartment, but instead found a dead woman “concealed” inside the residence, the report stated.

Police have not released the deceased woman’s name, nor that of the alleged armed robbery victim, citing an ongoing investigation.

On Sunday, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and Steubenville police arrested Arnold without incident at a downtown Steubenville residence.

Weirton police could not be reached for additional comment this morning.
