Tanker Accident Forces W.Va. 2 Closure

MOUNDSVILLE — One man was transported by helicopter to a hospital after a tanker truck collided with a car this evening on W.Va. 2 near Fish Creek Road.

Marshall County Emergency Management Director Tom Hart said the accident occurred at about 6 p.m. According to Hart, residents within a half-mile radius of the crash were evacuated as a precaution after it was discovered the tanker was leaking the chemical toluene diisocyanate.

According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention website, TDI is classified as a potential occupational carcinogen.

Hart said though the leak was small, the protocol for an accident involving TDI is to conduct an evacuation.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Moundsville and Washington Land volunteer fire departments responded to the scene.

W.Va. 2 is closed north of New Martinsville to just north of Fish Creek Road until further notice.
