Mele Declared Winner Following Benwood Election Contest

BENWOOD – Benwood City Council has declared Councilman Curtis Mele the winner of a 1st Ward council seat following a hearing today to decide his contest of the May 13 election results.

Mele had filed for re-election in the race, but his name did not appear on the ballot. The name of Benwood’s other 1st Ward council member, Chuck Terry, instead went before voters. Terry was not up for re-election.

Mele was the only candidate to file in the 1st Ward.

Council today reviewed the facts in the case during the 15-minute hearing, and declared Mele the winner.
