Tyler County Schools React to Drug Arrest

SISTERSVILLE – The daughter of the Tyler County Schools superintendent is free on bond after her arrest on drug charges last week.

Tyler County fifth-grade school teacher Gina Crawford and her boyfriend were arrested Friday by Sistersville police on drug charges after a search of her home turned up marijuana and prescription pills.

Two 18-year-olds at Crawford’s residence also were cited for simple possession of marijuana in the search.

Sistersville Police Chief Ben Placer said the arrests came after officers served a search warrant between 11 and 11:30 p.m. at Crawford’s Wiley Avenue home in Sistersville.

In addition to Crawford, police arrested Crawford’s live-in boyfriend, Justin Britton, 32, on a similar charge. Citations were issued to Chase Cornell, 18, of Sisterville, and Austin Rhodes, 18, of Friendly, both for simple possession.

“The arrests were made as a result of a month-long investigation,” Placer said. “We have seen a lot of activity coming from the house.”

He said officers recovered items of evidence from the home but he would not disclose what they had found.

Crawford, 33, was held over the weekend at the Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville after a Tyler County magistrate set bond at $10,000. She is charged with possession with intent to distribute.

Crawford is the daughter of Tyler County Schools Superintendent Robin Daquilante, who Monday said she was “discouraged and appalled to think any educator working with children would personally be involved with anything illegal.”

“As a parent, I love my daughter and know that she will answer professionally and personally for any action deemed to be illegal,” she said.

The school district issued a statement Monday, stating the board will take proper steps to deal with the incident in a professional manner, including protecting the rights of their employees. Additionally, the district assured parents that student safety and well being is a top priority on a daily basis, as it will be with this case. They offered no additional information on Crawford’s employment status.
