Woman Struck on W.Va. 2

McMECHEN – A woman was struck Saturday night by a vehicle while crossing W.Va. 2 in McMechen.

Police Chief David Robinson said he did not know the woman’s condition, but said she was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown for treatment.

“The lady was crossing (W.Va. 2) at 12th Street, I believe to go to the Dollar General store,” he said. “The driver did everything to avoid an accident, which is still under investigation, but it appears she attempted to swerve to get away and couldn’t do it.”

Robinson said the accident happened at dusk near the intersection of W.Va. 2 and 12th Street. Police got the call at 9:47 p.m.

The woman, a McMechen resident, is about 36 years old.

“We have a fair amount of foot traffic that goes across W.Va. 2,” he said.
