Dianna Vargo’s Last Ohio County Schools BOE Meeting Is Monday
WHEELING — Dianna Vargo’s 32-year career with Ohio County Schools nears its end this week, and she will attend her last meeting as superintendent when board of education members convene tomorrow night.
The meeting is set for 6 p.m. Monday in the board office, located at 2203 National Road in Elm Grove.
A relatively short agenda has been set for the evening. Board members are expected to consider the approval of a new job sharing policy for school district employees, and further discuss policies regarding the hiring of students as workers in the school district.
Vargo has served as superintendent since January 2012, and previously served as assistant superintendent and as a principal and math teacher at Wheeling Park High School.
Board members voted 3-2 on Dec. 29 not to renew Vargo’s contract, which expires with the end of the fiscal year on Thursday. Board members who voted not to renew Vargo’s contract were board President Shane Mallett, Gary Kestner and Tim Birch. Voting to keep Vargo in place were Sarah Koegler and Christine Carder.
Kestner and Koegler both were up for re-election on May 10. Koegler won her bid for re-election, while Kestner did not.
Board members on Feb. 22 selected Woodsdale Elementary School Principal Kimberly Miller to be the next superintendent. Her first official day on the job is Friday.
The board is scheduled to meet at 4 p.m. July 5, at which time Miller will be sworn in as superintendent. Also slated to be sworn in are the two board members winning election on May 10 — Koegler and newcomer Zack Abraham.
Miller has accepted a four-year contract to be the next superintendent, which will pay her $138,000 for 2016-17, $142,000 for 2017-18, $146,000 for 2018-19 and $150,000 for the final year, 2019-20.
