More Charges Filed in Moundsville Sexual Abuse Case

MOUNDSVILLE — Following the June arrest of a Moundsville woman accused of performing sex acts on children several years ago, another alleged victim has come forward claiming she was victimized in what she described to police as the “trailer of hell.”

Tina Burgy, 39, and Michael Purcell, 50, of Moundsville, were arrested earlier this week on charges of third-degree sexual abuse in connection with an alleged incident dating back to 2005 or 2006. The latest alleged victim claimed that at age 14, she had been victimized by Burgy, who she told police she considered a motherly figure, around 220 times in the span of a year.

During the period when the abuse allegedly occurred, the now-grown woman said Burgy kept her compliant with alcohol and drugs. After some time, Purcell allegedly joined in the abuse, sexually abusing the girl while having sex with Burgy.

The alleged said on one occasion she was rendered “comatose” from pain pills, according to a criminal complaint.

The alleged victim told police posts on social media about Burgy’s recent arrest prompted her to come forward. She said she was saddened by the fact another child allegedly was victimized.

Burgy had previously been charged in 2007 with sexual abuse, based on reports from the same alleged victim. The charges were dropped without prejudice — meaning they can be refiled — after the alleged victim failed to appear in court.

Burgy was arrested in June on two charges of sexual assault against three children staying the night at her residence in the summer of 2012 or 2013. In this incident, Burgy allegedly ordered the children to disrobe and line up while she made lewd comments toward them.

At the time of her arrest, Burgy denied the charges, which she claimed were fabricated due to an unfriendly relationship with one of the alleged victim’s mothers.

Burgy posted bond after the June arrest. That case has been bound over to circuit court, but she has yet to be indicted.

Both Burgy and Purcell remain at the Northern Regional Jail on $20,000 bond each.
