East Wheeling Murder Trial Set To Begin Monday in Ohio County

ACOFF

WHEELING — The jury trial is set to begin Monday for Dallas Michael “Dal” Acoff, who is accused of shooting and killing Lemroy Coleman in an East Wheeling alley in October.

Acoff, 27, of Cleveland, was indicted by the August 2015 Ohio County grand jury, and faces one count each of murder, malicious assault, being a person prohibited from possessing a firearm; and three counts of wanton endangerment involving a firearm.

Ohio County Prosecutor Scott Smith said the trial begins with jury selection at 9 a.m. Monday. The jury will be taken to view the crime scene, either before or after opening statements, he said.

“The parties agreed that they would like to have a jury view and the judge approved,” Smith said.

In order to accommodate a large jury pool, proceedings will be held in the larger, second-floor courtroom of the City-County Building, 1500 Chapline St., Smith said. Circuit Judge David Sims will preside.

On Oct. 9, an altercation allegedly began outside the American Legion bar on Jacob Street.

At 1:20 a.m., police received a call about multiple shots fired, and found Coleman, 33, lying facedown in an alley between Lane E and 15th Street, according to a criminal complaint.

Coleman suffered a gunshot wound to his lower left abdomen. He was later pronounced dead at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling.

During the murder investigation, police said they had video surveillance footage showing Acoff shooting Coleman during the Oct. 9 altercation outside the bar, according to police reports.

Acoff’s alleged accomplice, Rocco Pasquale Pandoli, also of Cleveland, also was indicted, charged with aiding and abetting murder, a felony.

In March, Michael Johnson pleaded guilty to misdemeanor accessory to murder for driving Acoff and Pandoli from the scene. He was sentenced to one year of house arrest.
