WHEELING — Ohio County Board of Education members accepted the resignation of two teachers and one custodian, and suspended a second custodian, during personnel actions this morning.

Members convened the special meeting today to first address Superintendent Kim Miller’s recommendation that a professional employee be terminated. Attorneys for Darlene Archer, a special education teacher at Bethlehem Elementary, opted to have a private hearing on the matter shortly after the meeting began at 8 a.m.

There was a brief time in which Miller met privately with Archer’s attorneys, and board members left chambers for the private hearing at 8:08 a.m.

At 8:20 a.m., they returned from the closed door session, and a motion was made to accept Archer’s resignation effective Jan. 26. School officials offered no explanation for the resignation or for Miller’s recommendation for Archer’s termination.

Then members again left the room to meet privately on three other personnel matters.

At 8:28 a.m., they returned to the public meeting and a motion was made to accept the resignation of Jeffrey Reynolds, a Wheeling Park High School German teacher, effective Feb. 27. The board unanimously approved the motion.

Motions also were unanimously approved to accept the resignation of WPHS custodian John Garlinger, and to accept Miller’s recommendation that WPHS janitor Chris Saseen be suspended for one day without pay, effective Wednesday.

No further discussion was held on any of the personnel matters.

Among those present for today’s meeting were Wheeling Park High School Principal Amy Minch, Bethlehem Elementary School Principal Stacy Greer and Special Education Director Leah Stout.

All of the school board members were present including board president Zach Abraham, and Christine Carder, Sarah Koegler, Shane Mallett and Tim Birch.
