At Least 16 Buckeye Local Students Injured in Bus Crash Near West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY – At least 16 Buckeye Local High School students were injured when their school bus hit a tree along W.Va. 88 near West Liberty.

Ohio County Sheriff Tom Howard said he does not believe any of the injuries are life-threatening.

One student was being treated in Wheeling Hospital’s intensive care unit for multiple fractures, and is in stable condition, according to hospital spokesman Gregg Warren.

At least four other students’ injuries could be termed “severe,” according to Warren, who added four patients have been admitted to the hospital.

The uninjured students were loaded onto another Buckeye Local school bus. The bus was carrying the school’s football team to watch a practice at West Liberty University, according to Buckeye Local School Distrcit Interim Superintendent Scott Celestin.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
