High Water Reported on National Road in Wheeling; Flash Flood Warning in Effect
WHEELING – Police are warning motorists to avoid the intersection of National Road and Bethany Pike due to high water.
Traffic is being rerouted around the intersection, which often experiences flooding during heavy rain.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for areas of the Ohio Valley, in effect until 1 a.m.
Up to two inches of rain have already fallen with an additional half an inch expected, according to the NWS. Flash flooding has been reported
in the area of Jacobsburg.
Some locations that will experience flooding include Wheeling, Moundsville, Martins Ferry, St. Clairsville, Bellaire,
Barnesville, Bethlehem, Shadyside, McMechen, Powhatan Point, Glen Dale and Bridgeport.
Drivers are urged to use caution, particularly at night when the dangers of flooding may be more difficult to recognize, according to the NWS.
