Ohio County Board of Education: School Will Reopen Monday
Mallett, Birch leave in protest before meeting begins
WHEELING — Ohio County Superintendent Kim Miller said she fully expects school to be back in session Monday — whether the legislative aspect of the statewide teacher strike is completed or not.
During a meeting this morning of the Ohio County Board of Education, in which members Shane Mallett and Tim Birch left 10 minutes before the meeting started in an attempt to have the meeting canceled due to lack of a quorum, board President Zach Abraham addressed rumors that he had been holding meetings to seek an injunction to force teachers back to work. Abraham said the rumors were untrue, and that the board members had been supportive of the teachers and service personnel during the strike.
He also said the original intention of this morning’s meeting was to pass a resolution directing Miller to open schools Monday, but that she already has a plan to make that happen.
