Senate Finance Passes 4 Percent Raise For School Employees, State Police
WHEELING — The West Virginia Senate Finance Committee has amended and passed House Bill 4145, while instituting a 4-percent raise for State Police, public school teachers and school service employees.
The amendment represents a 1-percent reduction in the 5-percent raise proposed by Gov. Jim Justice. The 1-percent reduction is expected to save $13.4 million, committee members said.
A 2-percent raise already has been approved for all state employees and is included in the proposed budget for next year. Republicans on the finance committee said this figure could be raised another 2 percent to give all state employees the increase.
The full Senate is expected to convene at 5:45 p.m. to consider HB 4145.
