Suspect In Bank Robbery at The Highlands Is Nabbed
TRIADELPHIA –Aaron Randolph Haseltine, 35, came all the way from Perryopolis, Pa. to get a seat in the Northern Regional Jail, after he allegedly robbed the WesBanco bank at The Highlands on Friday afternoon.
Ohio County Sheriff’s Department deputies quickly responded to the scene after receiving the report of a robbery shortly after 4 p.m. Friday. Sheriff Tom Howard said Haseltine allegedly handed a note to a bank employee demanding money.
“No one was hurt. No weapon was shown,” Howard said.
Howard said bank employees complied with the demands, giving Haseltine about $2,000 in cash. The suspect then fled the bank.
Deputies responded to the bank, as one of them worked to retrieve fingerprints from the door.
Bank employees inside allowed others stuck outside back into the building, while deputies worked. Three cruisers were on site, with one deputy working outside.
By 4:20 p.m., deputies stopped a Ford Taurus with Pennsylvania license plates as in traveled west toward Wheeling on Interstate 70. The suspect was promptly arrested.
“The vehicle has been impounded. We will do a search on the car,” Howard said late Friday. “The $2,000 will go into evidence.”
According to Howard, another man was in the vehicle with Haseltine at the time they arrested him.
“We don’t believe the other guy had anything to do with it. He seemed to be completely unaware of what was going on,” Howard said.
It is not unusual for Howard’s deputies to deal with cases of shoplifting or vehicle accidents at The Highlands.
However, he believes this is the first time someone robbed a bank at the hilltop development.
“I’m very proud of my deputies. They did a terrific job today,” Howard added.
