Vehicle Chase Starts in Martins Ferry, Ends in Crash in Bellaire

MARTINS FERRY — A man suspected of stealing a car from the Martins Ferry Recreation Center on Monday night led multiple police agencies on a high-speed chase which ended when the suspect crashed the vehicle near Bellaire.

Martins Ferry police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol pursued the suspect south on Ohio 7 until the suspect’s vehicle struck another car near the first exit south into Bellaire. The crash ended the pursuit during which the suspect’s vehicle reached speeds of more than 90 mph, police said. Bellaire police also were involved in the arrest.

The man, whose identity was not available at presstime, was taken into custody. No injuries were reported to the driver of the vehicle that was struck. Bellaire and Neffs fire departments also responded to the scene of the crash.

The suspect faces multiple charges.
