Washington — U.S. Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, have procured $2.2 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for the repair of Brooke County’s Pioneer Trail due to recent flood damage. The Brooke Pioneer Trail stretches from Wellsburg to Wheeling along the Ohio River and is a popular recreation area for the residents of West Virginia and visitors alike.

“I applaud FEMA for their continued efforts to help rebuild West Virginia after recent flooding. The Brooke Pioneer Trail is a key tourist attraction and recreation area in our great state and it is important that we take measures to protect and repair it, so that it can be enjoyed by current residents, visitors, and many generations to come. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee I will continue to work with FEMA so that all areas of West Virginia that are damaged from flooding or other natural disasters get the resources they need to rebuild,” Manchin said.

“Following flooding disasters, it is important that we work with West Virginia communities to repair damaged infrastructure,” Capito said. “This funding will help Brooke County recover from flooding that occurred in February 2018, helping to restore a sense of normalcy for communities in the county. West Virginians work tirelessly to lift their neighbors up following a disaster, and I will continue to use my role as chairman of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee to ensure we have the resources we need.”
