Lenore Griffith

GRIFFITH, Lenore Flynn, 78, of Parkersburg, W.Va., died Monday, September 24, 2007, following a battle with cancer.

Mrs. Griffith was born and raised in Wheeling, W.Va., where she made her home until 1983, when she and her husband, the late Robert F. Griffith, retired to Beaufort, S.C. Mr. and Mrs. Griffith were married for nearly 50 years, at the time of his death in 2000.

The daughter of Frances and James Flynn, Mrs. Griffith graduated from Mount de Chantal Academy in Wheeling and Saint Mary’s College in South Bend, Indiana.

In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Griffith was an active citizen in Wheeling, where she volunteered her time and talents for Mount de Chantal; the American Red Cross; The Wheeling Society for Crippled Children; and Saint Michael Catholic Church.

Mrs. Griffith was active with the Saint Vincent de Paul Society and an after-school tutoring program for children in Beaufort. She was a member of Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, Beaufort, S.C. In Parkersburg, Mrs. Griffith attended Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church.

Surviving Mrs. Griffith are daughter, Mimi Griffith, her husband, James Cameron, and their daughter, Kathleen, of Darien, Conn.; son, John O. Griffith, his wife, Ann, and their sons, Jack and Robert, of Vienna, W.Va.; son, James F. Griffith of Elkins, W.Va.; son, Andrew F. Griffith, his wife, Patricia, their daughter, Andrea, and son, Christian, of London, England; and her sister, Sister Mary Grace Flynn of Wheeling, W.Va.

The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital’s Transitional Care Unit for their loving care of Lenore during a very difficult time.

Friends will be received at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger Street, Elm Grove, W.Va. on Thursday, September 27, 2007 from 6-8 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday at Mount de Chantal Visitation Academy Chapel.

Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
