SOCHA, Walter, 83 years young, of Martins Ferry, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2008, in Peterson Rehabilitation Hospital and Geriatric Center in Wheeling, W.Va.
Walter was born April 6, 1925 in Crabapple, Ohio, the son of the late Carl “Charlie” and Anna Woichek Socha.
He was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in 1987; was a member of the Knights of Columbus; and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Martins Ferry. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. Walter was an avid walker and health enthusiast, a friend to all.
Walter donated his body to the WVU Department of Neuro Biology.
In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Mae Bosley in 1972.
Surviving are a son, Walt “Chip” Socha and his wife, Gretha, of Portland, Ore.; his twin daughters, Carolyn Ziegler and her husband, Dan, and Marilyn Roberts and her husband, Tom, all of Wheeling; his grandchildren, Abi Givler and her husband, Eric, Zach Ziegler and his wife, Angela, Mark Roberts and his wife, Rickilyn, and Lauren Thornton and her husband, Eric; three great-grandchildren, Daniel, Courtny, and Dakota; and his siblings, Anna Schlatt and her husband, Marion, of Wheeling, Tony Socha of Barnesville, Ohio and Frank Socha of Wheeling.
Friends received on Monday, August 11, 2008 from noon until time of memorial service at 1 p.m. at the Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, with the Reverend Thomas Magary officiating.
Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
