Friends will be received at Kepner Funeral Home, Burke Chapel, 2101 Warwood Avenue, Wheeling, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
Interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
COMER, James A., 79, resident of Clearview, died Sunday, November 8, 2009.
Mr. Comer was born March 26, 1930, in Wheeling, W.Va., son of the late Peter J. and Martha Auber Comer.
Jim retired from Weirton Steel with 40 years of service; he was a foreman in the strip steel mill; a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church; a member of the Weirton 25 year club; a life member of the American Legion Post 1; a life member of the D.A.V. of Bellaire, 117, and the FOE 344. He was a US Navy veteran serving in Korea.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Hinegardner, a grandson, and a brother, John.
He is survived by his loving wife and partner of 57 years, Jean McDonald Comer; sons, James L. and wife, Dawn of West Liberty, Ricky J. and wife, Neely; daughter, Sharon Payton and husband, Richard, both of Warwood; 10 grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren; sisters, Martha Howard of Carlisle, Pa., and Margaret Walton of Mt. Olivet, W.Va.; a brother, Louis R. of Benwood, W.Va.; a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Kepner Funeral Home, Burke Chapel, 2101 Warwood Avenue, Wheeling.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Monsignor Eugene S. Ostrowski as celebrant.
Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Vigil services will be held Wednesday, 8 p.m.
