Clyde E. Gatewood

GATEWOOD, Clyde E., 88, of Glen Dale, W.Va., died Sunday December 6, 2009, in Elkins, WV.

He was born January 25, 1921, in Glen Dale, a son of the late Clyde and Katherine McCarthy Gatewood.

Clyde was a retired employee of Allied Chemical of Moundsville; a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1907, the Eagles Aerie 499, the American Legion Post 3, and the VFW Post 437, all of Moundsville; a U.S. Army veteran of WWII; and a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Glen Dale.

He was a founding member of the St. Jude Club and St. Jude Park, and a charter member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Glen Dale.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Lee Hupp Gatewood; a brother, Robert Gatewood; four sisters, Anna Tagg, Patricia Laubert, Sarah Williams and Beryl Karges.

Surviving are two sons, Ronald Gatewood and his wife, Patty, of Elkins, and Robert Gatewood and his wife, Deborah, of Sand wich, MA; two daughters, Kathryn “Kitty” Lee and her husband, David, of Elkins and Paula Schubert and her husband, Robert, of Glen Dale; seven grand children; three great-grand children; several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville, where vigil services will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 12, 2009 at St. Jude Catholic Church with Rev. John R. Gallagher as celebrant.

Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.
