Richard Marchlenski

MARCHLENSKI, Richard C. “Dick” 82, of Benwood, W.Va., died Sunday, August 22, 2010.

Born in Wheeling, W.Va. on November 27, 1927, Dick was the son of the late John and Anelia Wiszniewski Marchlenski. He was a member of the former St. Ladislaus Catholic Church and a current member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

As a second generation grocer, he was one of the members whom established the Convenient Food Mart Franchise.

Dick was the owner of three Convenient Food Mart Stores, Washington Ave., 16th Street, and Bethany Pike. He loved serving the public in the grocery business and also served the country in World War II with the U.S. Army and then in the reserves occupying Korea.

The family man that he was, Dick loved the outdoors, fishing, music and dancing. He was an active member in his community supporting polish tradition.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Angela Regiec Marchlenski in 2002; his infant son, Richard M. Marchlenski; two sisters, Mary Marchlenski and Helen Malantinsky; eight brothers, Pete, Joseph, Harry, Chester, Louis, John, Frank and Edward Marchlenski.

Surviving are three daughters, Teresa “Tracy” Fargo of Jenson Beach, Fla., Mechelle Mitchell of Wheeling, and Mary Kay Obecny and her husband Thaddeus of Wheeling; one brother, Stanley Marchlenski of Wheeling; one sister, Jane Zingo of Martins Ferry, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Fargo, Tiffany Fargo, Erin Fargo, Brittany Terris, Rick Mitchell, Jennifer Mitchell, Ryan Mitchell, and Thaddeus P. Obecny II.; and two great-grandchildren, Janaia and Bryce Fargo.

Dick will be sadly missed by his daughters, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, friends and his loving friend Gilda Reed.

Friends will be received at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, on Friday, August 27, 2010 from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a..m on Saturday at St Alphonsus Catholic Church, Wheeling.

Entombment in Mt Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Wheeling.
