McCOOL, John W., 91, of Reynoldsburg, formerly of Shadyside, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2010, in Grant Hospital.
He graduated from Bellaire High School, in 1936, earned a degree in Education from Kent State University, then served during WWII in the United States Air Force.
Upon discharge he received a Masters Degree in Education Administration from West Virginia University, then spent the next 44 years in the field of education as a teacher and principal, mostly in the Shadyside School District.
In his later years he became an avid golfer.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jenny McCool, nine brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jane (Beerman) McCool; children, Janet (Bob) Munjas, Dr. Charles (Susan) McCool, and Maureen (Pat) Manley; grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Buddy”, Dr. Erin (Brian) Olah, Amie (Jason) Case, Cory (Fiancee Christa) Ehler, Kevin, Michael and Allison McCool, and Lindsay Pridham; great-grandchildren who became the light of his life in recent years, Abigail, William John, and Alex Olah, and Zachary Case. John never met a stranger. After relocating to Reynoldsburg he told everyone he met that he was not from Reynoldsburg, but from Shadyside. He is now at peace in his beloved Shadyside.
His family will receive friends Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Bauknecht- Altmeyer Funeral Homes, 3900 Central Avenue, Shadyside, OH; vigil service at 2:15. His funeral service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church 350 East 40th Street, Shadyside, OH.
Interment will follow at the Powhatan Cemetery.
