Franklin Tharp

THARP, Franklin D., 77, of Wheeling, W.Va., passed away Friday, October 22, 2010, at home.

He was born August 28, 1933, in Wellsburg, W.Va., son of the late Harry H. and Hazel B. Whitesel Tharp.

Mr. Tharp was a retired coal miner and former president of Local #1417.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Herbert K., Harold A., Harry C. “Doc,” and Earl L. Tharp; three sisters, Freda L. Gray, Anna E. Carroll, and Hazel C. Henry; and a son, Clay Wesley Tharp.

Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years, Shelva Maidens Tharp; a son, Franklin Tharp and his wife, Joyce of Elm Grove; a grandson, Logan Tharp and his wife, Chrissy of Wheeling; two great-grandchildren, Kyla Alexis and Taylor Olivia Tharp; a brother, Charles L. Tharp of Beach Bottom; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Kepner Funeral Home (304-242-2311) 166 Kruger Street, Elm Grove, Wheeling, on Sunday, October 24, 2010, from 3 p.m. until time of services at 7 p.m. with Pastor Dennis Arnold officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
