Marcia Karathanasis

KARATHANASIS, Marcia Annette (Walker) died peacefully at home Sunday evening, 9-26-10. She was enjoying retirement these past few years and kept limber with her warm water swim class at the YMCA and reading several mystery or comedy series.

Marcia’s career in dental assisting started in Martins Ferry at C.E. Smith DDS office. She managed and assisted at several other practices over the years, and occasionally worked seasonal gift-wrap at L.S. Good Co. in Wheeling. While working she also managed to be very active in her daughters’ activities: North School PTA bazaars, Brownie & Girl Scout leader, scouting camp, and pet helper. She also hosted at her home, many last day of school picnics as well as first day of school luncheons and numerous family/friend parties and functions. Marcia and Harry were welcomed into the Episcopal Church for their marriage in 1963. She served God and her community through St. Paul’s for many dedicated years with altar guild, ECW, treasurer, and the most memorable fish fry’s. Her organization and leadership skills helped make the fish fry’s successful enough to pay off the annex in just a few years. She was a proud 50-year member (honorary) of Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority, Gamma Chapter and celebrated with them many happy activities and conventions. She relocated to Columbus in 1986 and worked for several companies in medical claims and customer service: Midland Insurance, Mt. Carmel Hospital, St. Anthony Hospital, PerSe. She finished her career with some of the most special people she ever worked with: Medalist Management.

She is survived by her daughters Stacia and Stefania and her grandson Elliott.

Please join us for a memorial service with Eucharist at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (Martins Ferry) on Saturday, 10-16-10, 11 a.m. and celebration luncheon to follow.

In lieu of flowers, it would offer us comfort to hear about a memorial donation to your favorite charity or hers: Meals on Wheels, March of Dimes, Public Library, Cancer Society, Mid-Ohio Food Bank. Arrangements by EVANS FUNERAL HOME 4171 E. Livingston Ave.
