Captain Rose Margaret Truax
TRUAX, Captain Rose Margaret, 78, of Shadyside Ohio, died Friday, December 31, 2010 in Bishop Hodges Care Center Wheeling, W.Va.
Rose was born January 29, 1932 in Shadyside, Ohio, a daughter of the late Walter E. “Casey” and Cecelia Exner Truax.
Rose retired as Navy Captain, from the U.S. Public Health Service as a Nurse Scientist.
She was a 1950 graduate of Shadyside High School, a graduate of Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing, received her Masters in Nursing from St. Louis University, was a commissioned officer of the United States Public Health Services, served on the board at Yale University as a lecturer teaching nursing policy and procedures, served the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva , Switzerland, served as a special agent under Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, served in the Peace Corps for six years, set up a school of nursing in Honduras, as well as Vietnam, Seychelles Island, and in Central America.
She was a member of the American Nursing Association, Shadyside High school Alumni Association, American Legion Post 521 Shadyside, Ohio, Shadyside Women’s Club, Wheeling Hospital Auxiliary and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church Shadyside, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Regina Summers, two brothers , Patrick Truax and Victor Truax, a cousin, Robert F. Meyers.
Surviving are a special caregiver and cousin, Mary Lou Meyers Andrich, Cousin, William L. Myers and several nieces and nephews.
At Rose’s request, no visitation was held. Interment was held on January 4, 2011 in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Bellaire, Ohio.
