David Ice

ICE, Dave “Coach Ice” 64, of Bellaire, Ohio, died Saturday, April 23, 2011 at home, surrounded by his family and friends.

Dave was born August 21, 1946 in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late Delmer and Martha Destifanes Ice.

He was retired from Consolidation Coal Corporation’s former Quarto 4 Mine Clarington, Ohio and The UMWA Local 1785 and a Catholic by Faith.

A more faithful and truehearted Bellaire Big Red could not be found. Dave was a dedicated coach and mentor to many student athletes of Bellaire High School and Jr. High School He was instrumental in founding the Big Reds 7th grade football program and a long time coach of basketball and track.

He was a member of the Bellaire Touchdown Club, serving as president for several years and a trustee of the Bellaire Sports Foundation. He also served as a past member of the Bellaire Recreation Board.

Surviving are his loving wife of 43 years, Annette Brunori Ice, a son, David Ice and his wife, Cari of Plain City, Ohio, a granddaughter, Madison Ice, sisters-in-law, Toni (Gary) Sechrest and Arleen (Chub) Sabatino all of Bellaire, Ohio, nephews, Mike (Jenny) Sechrest, Brian “Bubba” (Jessica) Sechrest and Andrew Sabatino, three great-nephews, Trace and Colton Sechrest and Max Sechrest and many cousins and friends.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday April 27, 2011 from noon to 8 p.m. at the Bauknecht- Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory 441 37th Street Bellaire, OH.

Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 11a.m. Thursday in St. John Catholic Church Bellaire, Ohio with Fr Daniel Heusel as Celebrant.

Committal service will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship fund will be established in memory of Coach Ice through the Bellaire Sports Foundation at Pob 497, Bellaire, OH 43906.
